High miles, but interior is in fantastic shape, exterior looks solid, both conditions seem to be rare on these online... Looks well cared for, but of course it’s a ‘92 because ALL SC400s for sale are that old... I prefer the facelifted version, also would prefer 5 less years of wear and tear, but damn, this one looks great. I also am much more in love with the six-spoke wheels than these, but sacrifices must be made.

Would prefer less miles and such, but if I can get one in good shape for less than 4k I think that’s a NP all day... Because ones with less miles and a few years younger seem to go for a huge premium.

It’s been up for a while but it’s also a pretty far drive for me... But with some time off coming soon as a result of the Holidays, I guess I could make a trip down to test my luck.

I’ve noticed recently that the market is getting very nice for these. http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/533685… This is all I can find now, but last week I saw a 97 400 with 177k miles for $3,900, and a 97 400 with 120k miles for $5,000

Oh, I remember those as the Toyota Soarer. They were quite popular as Japanese imports in the 1990s and 2000s before going the way of all large cars with matching large running costs.

SC400s are gorgeous IMO. I actually love the interior too. The 1UZ is supposed to be a great engine, but it requires frequent timing belt changes. That’s something to consider. Personally, I’d go with an SC300 - The 1UZ isn’t that much more powerful than the 2J - 250 horsepower vs 225 (10% difference) and torque is higher with the V8, (260 vs. 210 so a 20% difference). But the V8 is 100 LBS more too. The car will be smooth but not fast with either engine. Plus MPG is better with the 6. And they’re more reasonably priced! Just my 2 cents. Check these out, I think they’re a way better value! Also, manual transmissions! The last link is an absolute steal, 62k miles $5500

You make a compelling argument. I figured that this would be my one and only opportinity to own a V8, though, as I am skeptical about future gas prices as well as future access to V8s in general, etc.

But you are right, the differences between the 2J and 1U aren’t too much, and as a man who thought the 3AC in the Tercel (64hp!!!) was fun, I’m sure either would be more than enough for me.

Hey I totally understand about the V8! I had the same exact thought, which is why I ended up with my Q45. It’s a lot of fun, but holy atrocious gas mileage bat man! 22 MPG highway with cruise on, around 16 MPG average. Yikes lol. And YES the Tercel!!! My dad drove one when I was a toddler, it was light metallic blue. Probably the first car I have any memories of actually. Good luck with your search!

The only thing that seems a little off is the wife putting in the ad to sell her husbands’ car. Generally not they way things go. Wonder if she will be able to answer questions when you view it.

Plausible deniability? I’m selling my wife’s car right now, however I am the co-owner and I have done most of the maintenance on it myself... But yeah if this lady doesn’t have actual answer or didn’t drive it herself much, I’m probably deterred. I like buying from people that have actually used the vehicle.
